アイルランドの古い治療

うちのお婆さんが生きていたときに
色んな面白い治療があったんだって
。
My grandmother was really interesting with her natural remedies when she was alive!
ありえなくて笑えるぐらいの治療だったけど
Some were unbelievable...that you would laugh if you heard them!
本当に効くのかな（笑）
But they always worked!!! LOL
僕は若いときに手の指にイボがあったんだ
When I was younger I had warts on my fingers!
お母さんと
クリニックに行ってどうすればいいか聞いてみた
My mother brought me to the doctor to find out how we could get rid of them!
手術で取ってもらうしかないって言われたんだ！
The doctor said having them surgically removed with acid is the only way!
その日にお母さんが
お婆さんに電話して
その事を話した
Later that day my mother was talking to my grandmother about it
!
お婆さんが手術で取る？？・・・何で？との事
My grandmother was shocked at what the doctor had said? Why she exclaimed?
庭に行ってカタツムリを取ってきてカタツムリをイボに擦り込んでと言ってきた！！！
She told my mother to go down the garden and look for a snail, and then rub the snail on the warts!
治るって！（笑）
That'll cure them!
その週末の金土日にそうしてみた
So I did what she said over that weekend!!
二日か三日過ぎたら、
だんだん治ってきて、一週間後にイボがなくなった（吃驚！！！！！！）
After 2 or 3 days had passed, the warts had almost gone! And after a week or so they had disappeared!
びっくりでしょ？（笑）
Unbelievable right?? LOL
お婆さんの奇跡的な治療はそれだけじゃないよ
！
My grandmothers natural remedies didn't end there!!
色々なのがあった！
She had many!
下痢やおなかを壊しているときに
コーンスターチと水を混ぜて
飲んだら治るよ
If you have diahrrea she would say to take cornflour and water! And it really works!
僕には毎回効く
Any time I have it, I drink this mix and it works every time!
日本でもあるの？？
Do you have any remedies like that in Japan??

レプレコーンって言う人を知ってるかな？
Have you ever heard of the existence of Leprechauns?
レプレコーンは
ケルトがアイルランドに来る前に住んでいた男性の仙人
なんだ
Leprechauns are fairies who were believed to have lived in Ireland before the Celts came!
職業は靴屋で見た目は４０センチ！！
They are shoemakers and are 40cm tall!!
緑のスーツを着ていて緑帽子を被っていて黒い革エプロンを着ているんだ
They wear green suits, green hats and a balck leather apron.
昔話によると
レプレコーンは疎々しくて飄々で１人で暮らしていて靴を作って毎日過ごしている
According to legend, they are aloof, unfriendly and live un solitude making shoes.
レプレコーンはみんな宝を持っている
らしいんです！
They are all said to have treasure too.
レプレコーンを見つけると
彼の宝をもらえるチャンスがある！
If you find a Leprechaun, it is said that you have a chance to find his treasure.
ただ宝を隠している場所を教えてもらわないといけない！
But you must get him to tell you where he has his treasure hidden!!
脅かせば教えてくれるんだって！！！（笑）
It is said that if you threaten him, he will tell you!! LOL
でもどうやって
レプレコーンを見つけられるか？？？
But how do you find a Leprechaun???
アイルランドの森に行くとよく聞けば、レプレコーンの金槌の音が聞こえる！！
If you go to an Irish forest, and listen carefully, it is said that you can hear the hammer of a Leprechaun.
みんなアイルランドに行ったら宝のハンティングをしよう♪（笑）
Lets all go to Ireland and hunt for treasure. LOL

ポテトが好きですか！！？
Do you like potatoes (SPUDS)?
日本では
ポテトの種類が少ない
と思います！（泣）
I thinkt that there are so few varieties of patato in Japan!!
アイルランドのポテトは結構有名だし色んな種類があるんだ
Irish potatoes are famous and there are so many varieties too!
なんと
アイルランドでは１６種類以上
ありますよ！
There are more than 16 varieties in total!
種類が多いだけじゃなくて日本のと比べると味が全然違います！
It's not just that there are many varieties but that the flavour is so different to potatoes in Japan!
色んな料理を作る為に色んな種類を作っている
There are even different varieties for different types of cooking!
例えば、
フライドポテトを作る時に「NORCHIP」
と言う種類を使う！
For example, NORCHIP is a popular variety used for making chips!
アイルランドのポテト
食べたいな〜！！！
I wish I could eat Irish spuds!!!!!
ポテトを考えると
ホームシックになっちゃう！（笑）
When I think about potatoes I really get homesick!! LOL

だよ！
It's St.Patrick's Day!
アイルランドの一番で大きい祭！！
It is the biggest festival in Ireland.
アイルランドではセントパトリックは尊敬されている
から、毎年大きい祭をやっています
St.Patrick is venerated in Ireland so we have a huge festival in his honour every year.
毎年３月１７日に
みんなが緑の洋服を着て
パレードに参加する
It is on March 17th and we have a parade where everyone wears green clothes!
世界中でやっているよ
It is actually held all over the world!
色んな国でやっている
Many different countries have the parade.
もちろん
日本でもあるよ！！
Of course in Japan too!!
東京だと表参道でやっています
In Tokyo it is held in Omotesando
今年はみんなで参加しよう！！
Let's all take part in it this year!!

セントパトリックがどんな人か知ってますか？
Have you ever heard of what kind of person St.Patrick was?
彼は
アイルランドの守護聖徒
He is the Patron Saint of Ireland.
３８７年にスコットランドで生まれ
１６歳のときにアイルランドへ来たけど
奴隷としてアイルランドの族長に売られたんだ
！
He was born in Scotland in 387 and came to Ireland when he was 16 years old, but he came as a slave...he was sold off to an Irish Chieftain.
６年間とらわれの身の生活をして
イギリスに戻った
He lived 6 years as a slave before he returned to Scotland.
でもこの６年間の間に彼の全てをキリストに捧げる事を決めた
But it was during these 6 years that he decided to devote his life to Christianity.
数年間修道院で祈ったり勉強したり
をしてセントジェルマンが
アイルランドの使徒にパトリックを選挙で決めたみたい
He prayed and learned about Christianity for many years before being chosen as an apostle to Ireland by St.Gordain.
４３３年にパトリックがアイルランドに戻って
、アイルランドの
みんなにキリスト教を説教し
始めたんだ！
In 433, St.Patrick returned to Ireland and started to preach Christianity to the Irish people
ドルイド教の人たちに強く反対された
けどパトリックはやめなかった
He had a strong line of defence from the Druids though!
最後に
アイルランドの人たちはパトリックを容認して
そのときからキリスト教が活気付きました
But in the end, he didn't give up and prevailed as the key pursuader in turning Ireland Catholic!
今もセントパトリックは
アイルランドにとって凄く大事な人
です！！！
He is still a figure of major importance to the Irish people today.
毎年彼のために大きい祭りをやります
Every year there is a major festival dedicated to him.
その祭りは何でしょうか？？
Do you know what this festival is??

昔の
アイルランドのお正月
は面白いよ！！
New Years in Ireland was interesting back in the day!
１２月３１日じゃないんです！！！！
It wasn't on December 31st!!!!
ケルト語で
SAMHAIN（サウワン）という祭り
です。
It was a festival called SAMHAIN in Gaelic.
SAMHAINの意味は夏が終わった
です
It meant the end of summer
だから
１０月３１日に行なう祭り
です！
It was on October 31st.
今はハロウィンで同じ祭りをやっています
It is still marked by the fewstival of Halloween nowadays.
アイルランドでは
新しい法律や誕生とか死者とか結婚の記録をつける時
なんです！
It was when new laws were passed or any records of births, marriages or deaths were recorded.
でも
死者の魂が地球に戻って来る時期
でもあります！
But it was also the time when dead spirits came back to earth!
悪魔を受け流すために
、大かがり火を作ってみんなが外に出かけなかったんだ！
In order to drive away these spirits, people built bonfires and didn't go outside!
何故か？？？？。。。。それは昔のお正月に妖精達が海外に行っていたから！（笑）
Why you ask? Because the fairies were always abroad at the New Years! LOL
