僕は来月アイルランドに帰る！

Next month I am going home to Ireland!!

5年ぶりだ！！！！
For the first time in almost 5 years!!!

凄く楽しみにしている。
I am so looking forward to it!

5年の間に両親やお兄さんにも何回も会っているけど、
I have seen my parents and brother in the 5 years

今回ホームタウンのダブリンに行く事にした！！
But this time I am going home to DUBLIN!!

先週お母さんと話して色んな頼みを言った！笑
I was talking to my mother last week! and I asked her to get booking!!

例えば、僕が大好きなレストランを予約したり、

For example, the restaurants I like

田舎の方のホテルを予約したりしてくれるみたい！
and a hotel in the countryside that i am fond of!

一番楽しみにしているのは、ダブリン市はどうなってる！？

But the most exciting thing will be seeing what Dublin is like!?

5年間で変わっているだろう！？
I'm sure it has changed in the 5 years!!

ちょっと怖いかも！笑
A bit scary for me1 LOL

自分のホームタウンでも、僕は外国人になっちゃうかも！笑

I am going to be a foreigner in my own home town! LOL

アイルランドの帰る前に千葉の仲間と東京のセントパトリックスデーパレードに参加することにした！
Before I go home I am going to participate in the St Patrick's Day Parade in Tokyo with my friends from Chiba!

そのためにアイリッシュ50周年Tシャツを作ったんだ！

For that purpose I have made a 50th anniversary Irish T-shirt!

僕の友人の話しです
This is a story about my friend

この前僕の友人がバースデーでした
It was my friends birthday recently!

その友人のバースデープレゼントにアメリカ人の男性の友人はプレゼントを持ってきた
My American mate brought him a present for him

開けてみたら

When he opened it,

手作りのクッキー（笑）

It was a box of home made cookies!

そのアメリカ人の友人はとっても料理がうまい!!!
That guy is a good cook!!!

でもまさか手作りクッキーとは。。。

But how were the cookies

感動した話しです（笑）
They were impressive! MMmmmmm!!!

昨日アイリッシュパーティーをやりました

Yesterday I had an Irish party!

凄く盛り上がって楽しかった！！
It was so much fun!

昨日のアイリッシュパーティーでは

At the Irish Party yesterday

みんなにアイリッシュプチーンを飲ませました!!
I gave everyone a taster of Irish Poteen!

プチーンって聞いた事があるかな？
Have you ever heard of poteen?

アイルランドの伝統的なお酒です！
It is a traditional Irish liquor!

ホップから作られているんです
It is made from hops

セントパトリックの時代からずっと作っているお酒！
We've been making it sice the times of Saint Patrick.

でも１６６１年にイギリスの王様にでかい税金をかけることにした
のでプチーンを作る事が大変になったんだ！
But in 1661, the English King put a heavy tax on selling poteen, so times were hard.

でもアイルランド人はほとんどこの税金を払わなかった！笑

But not many people paid the tax!! LOL

１７７０年にプチーンを作るのは禁止になった！

So in 1770 he banned poteen altogether!

アイルランドのみんなさんが犯罪者になちゃったって事！笑
Everyone in Ireland instantly became criminals! LOL

でも勤勉なアイルランド人がばれないために面白い所でプチーンを作る事になりました
And the industrious Irish started to make their poteen in the most interesting of places in order not to be caught.

家の地下室とか池の中の島で作ったり船で作ったりした！
They made it in the basements of their homes, on islands in the middle of lakes, and even on boats!

一番有名なポチーンを作っている人は１０００年前に生きていたダーティーネリーだった
The most famous of these industrious outlaws was Durty Nelly!

彼女が作ったプチーンはどんな人の病気でも治すって昔話があります！

It's said that the poteen she made was famous in that it would cure any sickness!

人にも動物にもプチーンを飲ませていてみんなの病気を治した。
She gave it to people and animals and it always seemed to do the trick!

リウマチの犬の肌にプチーンを塗って３日か４日後に犬が跳ね回ていた！
She has been said to have cured a rheumatic old dog but rubbing the poteen on his skin, and right enough, 3 or 4 days later, the dog was jumping around the place!

凄いね！
Amazing!

みんなは酒屋まで走ってプチーンを買ってね！！笑
So everyone get down to the liqour store and get some poteen! LOL

花粉症

日本は花粉症に苦しむ人が多いみたいですね！？
There are a lot of people in Japan who suffer from hayfever right?

僕はラッキー！！！！一回もなったことがない！
I am a lucky duck who actually doesn't!

アイルランドでも色んな人が苦しむけどならない場合もあります！
But a fair few people in Ireland suffer from it too, but there is a remedy!!

大変だけど効きます！
It is difficult to do but it actually WORKS!

僕の友達が毎年春に花粉症になっていて毎年病院でおしりに注射をしてもらっていた！

My best mate back home got hayfever every year without fail, and had to go to the hospital to get an injection!

彼は注射針に弱く毎年行くのをすごく怖がっていました！笑
He was so scared of needles, he was afraid to go! LOL

だから彼は色々調べて注射無しの治し方を探した！
So when he researched it he found a remedy without needles!

酪農製品と小麦製品をやめればお婆さんに治るって聞いたらしいです！

His grandmother told him of an old remedy, to give up wheat and dairy products!

あり得ないと思うけど彼はそうして６年間ずっと花粉症になっていな～い
Unbelievably, it worked! And he hasn't had hayfever in the 6 years since!

これは試してみて!!

You should try it!!

アイリッシュウィスキーとスコッチを間違える人が多いです！

A lot of people mistake Irish Whiskey and Scotch Whisky!

どっちが初めて作ったかは誰も分かんないけど3000年前から作られているお酒
Well, who made whiskey first is the question!? All we know is that it has been made for over 3000 years!

ウィスキーは昔のアイルランド語（ゲール語）の単語「ウイシケ・バッハ」からきました

Whiskey said in old Irish is "Uisce Beatha".

ウイシケ・バッハは「命の水」と言う意味なんです！
Uisce Beatha means "Water of Life"

スコッチと違ってアイリッシュウィスキーの麦芽製造プロセスは泥炭をほとんど使っていない
Unlike Scotch, Irish Whiskey is mostly not distilled using Peat process.

アイリッシュウィスキーで使っているモルトはオーブンで乾燥しています
The Malt used in Irish Whiskey is Oven dried!

だから味が違～う！
That's why the taste is different!

アイリッシュウィスキーは色んな種類がある！
There are many types of irish whiskey!!

シングルモルト、シングルグレーン、ピュアポットスチルとブレンド！

Single Malt, Single Grain, Pure Pot Still and Blend Whiskey!!

今年はアイルランド・日本　国交樹立50周年

This year is the 50th anniversary of Irish Japanese Diplomatic Relations!

とってもうれしいです

I am really happy!

僕はアイルランド出身で今は日本に住んでるから日本とアイルランドの関係はとっても大切だと感じています

I am from Ireland, now living in Japan, so I feel that the relation between Japan and Ireland is really important!

５０周年を記念して僕はデザインをしました

To commemorate the 50th Anniversary, I made designs!

セントバレンタイン

昔のローマで２月１４日はジューノと言うホリデーだった！

A long time ago in Rome, February 14th marked the start of the Junno Holiday!

ジューノはローマの神様の女王でした
Junno was the queen of Rome's saints!

１８００年前にローマで彼女のためのお祭りがあった！
It was a festival held 1800 years ago in honour of her!

ジューノのお祭りは若い女の子の名前を紙に書いてつぼに入れて若い男の子がつぼから紙を引く

At this festival, young girls names were put into a jar and and the boys would pick one!

その女の子は祭りの間中彼のパートナーになる（笑）
The girl they chose would be their partner for the festival. LOL

でもたまに祭りの時だけじゃなく数年間続いたりしました
But sometimes the partnership would last longer, sometimes for years!

ある時その時代の皇帝は軍隊を作りたい為に独身じゃないと良い軍人にならないと思っていたらしい！
But the emperor of Rome at that time wanted to build his army with young single men...he thought they were stronger!

そして結婚することを禁止した！！
So he banned marriage in the Roman Empire!

でもセントバレンタインは愛を守るために秘密に結婚させていたんだ！！

But St.Valentine would perform secret marriages in spite of him...all for LOVE!

そして皇帝にばれたときに彼は処刑された・・・
When he was found out, he was sentenced to death...

監禁されている間にセントバレンタインが良く訪問しに来た女の子と恋に落ちて初めてバレンタインの手紙を送ったっていう話がある！
While he was imprisoned awaiting death, her fell in love with a young girl who often visited him and it is said that the first Valentine's letter was from St.Valentine to her!

セントバレンタインは２６９年２月１４日に首を切られた！！（泣）
St.Valentine was beheaded on February 14th in 269.

僕の地元のダブリン市にセイントバレンタインのお墓があります！

I bet you didn't know that St.Valenine's remains are entombed in Dublin...my home town!

アイルランドの説教者が１８３５年にポープグレゴリーXVIに評価の証拠としてもらったんです！
In 1835, the remains of St.Valentine were given to an Irish preacher by Pope Gregory XVI of Rome out of appreciation for his preaching of Catholicism.

だからアイルランド人はロマンチックなのかな～！（笑）
I suppose that is why Irish guys are so ROMANTIC! LOL

I wrote before that I got some strange jelly as a present from Village Vanguard, but when I went to check it out, I was shocked!!

みんなはアイルランド料理食べたことがある？

Have you all eaten Irish food before?

色々と面白いのがあるよ！
There are some interesting dishes!!

BOXTYっていうポテトパンケーキとかBUBBLE AND SQUEAK（キャベツとポテト）とかCOLCANNON（ケール入りマッシュポテト）とかね

Boxty which is a potato pancake, Bubble and Squeak, and Colcannon, to name but a few!

聞いた事あるかな？
Have you ever heard of them?

凄く美味しいよ！（笑）
They taste so good! LOL

セントパトリックスデーに特別のメニューもあるし！！！
We even have a special menu for St.Patrick's day!

セントパトリックスにはサーモンを食べるよ
We eat salmon on Paddy's day!!

特にアイルランドのスモークサーモン！
Especially Irish Smoked Salmon!

アイリッシュソーダブレードにバター＆スモークサーモン！
We eat it on buttered Irish Soda Bread.

去年アイリッシュパーティーをやった時に、ぼくは日本で始めてアイリッシュソーダブレードをチャレンジして作りました！
At an Irish party I threw last year, I made Soda Bread for the first time in Japan.

今月もアイリッシュパーティーで作るつもり！

I think I will again this month at the Irish party too!

友達の結婚

最近は暖かいですね！？
It's warm recently yeah??

アイルランドは春の結婚が一番多いんだ！

Spring in Ireland is most popular for weddings!

この間高校時代の友達が結婚した
A friend of mine recently got married in Ireland.

アイルランドの田舎にある城でやったみたい！

The wedding was in an old castle in the countryside!

ケルトのスタイルでやって凄くかっこよかった！！（泣）
He did it in traditional Celt style...it looked so cool!!

最近芸能人でもケルトの結婚式が流行っているらしいんだ！

Many famous people recently going for Celtic style weddings!

色んな芸能人がアイルランドで結婚しているよ
Some of these famous people are getting married in Ireland too!

僕が結婚するならアイルランドで結婚したいかも！
If I am going to get married, I'd like to get married in Ireland.

とりあえず相手探さなきゃ！（笑）
But I've gotta find a partner first!! LOL
